Young FBI agent Peter Sazerland discovers a bomb in the subway, prevents a tragedy, and becomes a national hero. However, due to his father's dark past, instead of being promoted, he is stuck in a boring position as a "night agent." He has to sit by the phone for hours in the basement of the White House, providing support to special service employees who rarely find themselves in trouble. One night, Peter answers a ringing phone and gets involved in an intense investigation of a massive conspiracy.
